Admission Requirement

DVM degree

  • UME Entry Requirements: Prospective candidates must satisfy both the University minimum entry and specified Faculty requirements. The Faculty specifically requires that a candidate must have passed Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology, at least at credit level in Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), GCE O/L or in an equivalent examination. The subjects to be taken in University Matriculation Examination are Chemistry, Physics, Biology and English Language.
  • Direct Entry Requirements: Prospective candidates must have passed GCE A/L or HSC or an equivalent examination in Chemistry, Biology and Physics in addition to credit in Mathematics in SSCE or GCE O/L or an equivalent examination. Holders of Higher Diploma in Animal Health and Husbandry of the University of Nigeria or other equivalent Diploma with pass at Merit level, plus credit in Physics and Mathematics in GCE/OL or equivalent examinations are also eligible for Direct Entry admission. Candidates with good undergraduate University degree with a minimum of second class honours lower division in relevant science areas, plus basic entry requirement are also eligible for direct entry admission.

M.Sc degree

(a). The prospective candidate must possess a good Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or its equivalent from a recognized Veterinary Council of Nigeria-accredited/approved University OR the candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) degree in Anatomy from a recognized University.

Ph.D degree

(a). The prospective candidate must possess a good Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or its equivalent from a recognized Veterinary Council of Nigeria-accredited/approved University OR the candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) degree in Anatomy from a recognized University.

(b). In addition to (a) above, the candidate must also possess a Masters degree (M.Sc) in Veterinary Anatomy from a recognized University, and must have obtained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 5 point scale or 3.0 on a 4 point scale in the Masters degree programme.
